Understanding Child Education Planning Calculator
Higher education costs in India — and especially abroad — rise faster than general inflation. Starting early with a dedicated SIP or child plan strategy reduces the monthly burden and gives compounding more years to work.
How this calculator works
Enter your child’s current age and the age when college starts. The calculator inflates today’s education cost to that year, adds yearly fee hikes during the course, grows your existing education fund at your assumed return, and shows the funding gap plus the monthly SIP or lumpsum needed today.
Example
A ₹25 lakh course cost today for a 5-year-old who will start college at 18 can become much larger after 8% education inflation — often requiring a meaningful monthly SIP if you start late.
Practical tips
- Separate “education money” from emergency funds so you do not dip into it casually.
- Shift from equity-heavy to safer assets 2–3 years before fees are due.
- Include hostel, books, and living costs — not only tuition.
Limitations
Course costs vary widely by college and country. Treat the output as a planning range and update numbers every year.
